Rebuilding Hilton Into a Global Powerhouse
Chris Nassetta became CEO of Hilton in 2007, shortly after the Blackstone Group took the company private in a $26 billion leveraged buyout. Chris Nassetta, who had previously led Host Hotels & Resorts, inherited a company loaded with debt and immediately faced the 2008 financial crisis — one of the worst downturns in hospitality history. Rather than retreating, Chris Nassetta used the downturn to restructure Hilton’s operations and lay the groundwork for aggressive expansion.
Under Chris Nassetta’s leadership, Hilton went public again in 2013 in what was then the largest hotel IPO in history. Chris Nassetta has since grown Hilton from roughly 3,800 properties to over 7,600, expanded the brand portfolio, and built Hilton Honors into one of the most popular loyalty programs in the industry. Chris Nassetta is widely credited with building a company culture centered on employee engagement and guest satisfaction that has made Hilton a perennial fixture on best-places-to-work lists.
